I love this article! MI Ae, you are just a wonderful writer! I am so impressed. I also learned quite a few things here. You should write a book about this stuff!
Okay I get it now -- it's mostly been done. Well I think Substack is a great way to go! The amount of education and knowledge you've acquired in this area is really impressive!
Mi- This is such a good applicable method of measurement: “A good driver is fully aware of the situation at hand. At any given moment, do you know the location of the nine vehicles closest to you?” So useful to remember in different situations. I appreciate it.
Thank you so much for your comment, Thalia—really appreciate it. Let me know if there are any driving or road safety topics you'd like me to address in a future Substack article. Be safe and aware out there in the wide world! : )

Thank you so much, Faith! It is wonderful to hear that this info might be helpful; that is always my hope with these posts. As for writing a book about this stuff, I was going to and then decided not to—you can read why here: https://drivingintherealworld.substack.com/p/welcome-to-my-new-substackdriving

Yes! We are as good a driver as we are a human! Compassionate, aware, present to the moment, not taking anything personally.
I like this notion that who we are as people is exactly who we are as drivers. It’s certainly true for me, for better and for worse.
It really is true. There is a thing called the GDE Matrix that was developed in Europe in the early 2000s, and now it is mandatory in learner driver training curriculums in many EU countries. I will talk about it in a future post, but it addresses exactly this issue: https://road-safety.transport.ec.europa.eu/european-road-safety-observatory/statistics-and-analysis-archive/young-people/content-training-best-practice_en
